Free zones are designated areas created for specific industries and investors. They typically offer full foreign ownership, a simple setup process and ready-made facilities. The process generally follows these steps:
- Choose a free zone. Select the zone that best matches your activity, budget and visa needs.
- Select a legal structure. Common forms include a Free Zone Establishment (FZE), a Free Zone Company (FZCO) or a branch of an existing company.
- Reserve your trade name. Submit your preferred name for approval.
- Prepare legal documents. This includes the Memorandum of Association and the zone’s application forms.
- Obtain free zone approval. The free zone authority reviews and approves your application.
- Receive your licence. The free zone authority issues your trade licence.
- Complete tax registration. Register with the Federal Tax Authority for corporate tax and, where applicable, VAT.
